Removed from their slots in this set’s rubber-footed wood storage block, these eight knives slice any steak, chop, or roast into bite-size pieces. Gourmet is one of Henckels’s inexpensive cutlery lines. These knives don’t have bolsters, but that feature isn’t vital when confronting a rib eye. The high-carbon, stainless-steel 4-1/2-inch blades are stamped, not forged, and because they are serrated on the upper halves, they tend to tear meat fibers rather than slice precisely through them the way straight-edge knives do. On the other hand, the fine serrations reduce the tearing effect, and the blades’ lower halves are straight. The synthetic, three-rivet, full-tang handles are classically styled. –Fred Brack

I bought these knives for my wife for Christmas. We bought them to complement our regular set of Professional S knives.
About the knives: The look of these was dead on with our current set. The finish of the handles could have been better. They feel a bit light and the handles just aren’t as smooth as the Professional S set. That being said -they weren’t nearly as expensive. I posted pictures of the end serrations on the blade. Not sure how this will effect sharpening them in the future.
About the block:
It was lighter in color than the other knife block we have. The stock photo is a very good representation of the color of the product we received. I would have been more pleased if it matched exactly.
Overall:
My wife is very happy with them. They cut well and look pretty good. I only ask for a bit better quality feel and a slightly different block color.

I’m not sure why some reviewers are calling these knives “expensive” since is pretty cheap in comparison to some of the higher end Henckels and Wustoff products. Anyway, I received these knives as a Christmas gift and have been VERY happy with them. They’re super sharp, and in my opinion cut quite well. I noticed some complaints of “shredding” the meat, but I haven’t had that problem.
Oh … and for the person who was mad the knives rusted in the dishwasher … you have nobody to blame but yourself for putting your good knives in the dishwasher in the first place (whether it says “dishwasher safe” or not!).
Personally, I think these are solid knives for a pretty good price.

I have found these knives do the job they’re designed for very well. These are serrated knives and have kept a sharp edge for the five years I have owned them.
